Frequently asked questions on RescuePRO™ for PC:

I have a compact flash card that came up with an error message at the end of vacation. I tried your demo. It came up with 26 pictures but only showed thumbnails of 3 pictures not the pictures that I could see on the camera. Is this normal or should I see a thumbnail of each picture?

Upon running the demo of the RescuePRO™ software, the thumbnails of the images we can recover will show in the window. If no thumbnails show up, then the images may be unrecoverable. Please check in the Help file in the software under Troubleshooting to see if there are other options to try.

When I download the demo, I get a box that allows me to open it or save it to a disc. When I select open I get the message, %1 is not a valid Win 32 application. Nothing happens nor do I have any other choices. What do I do?

You need to install an unzip program. The most common is WinZip. It is available at www.winzip.com and the instructions for installing it are on their site.

I’ve the following issue with RescuePRO™ full version. During the scan it finds 20 jpegs and then the following error occurs:- A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C02A27A8 in VXD VWIN32(05) +000012DO I believe there a raw files on this card. Any ideas?

The card may have a corrupted place in the file system structure that is tripping us. Save the images that come off the card in a normal scan, and then go to the DOS PROMPT (or COMMAND PROMPT) in the system - note, it is very very important that this be done from the command prompt and not the windows explorer. Assuming the drive letter of the card in the reader (not the camera - it wont work) is Z:, then type in the following at the command prompt:

FORMAT Z:

...and press enter. Not volume label is necessary, so just press enter there too. If this is windows 2000 or higher, you may get an error about having to use the /FS switch. In that case, you would type the following at the command prompt:

FORMAT Z: /FS:FAT

...and press enter. This will do the same thing as the format, but get you past that error.

Then close the DOS window, and rescan with RescuePRO. This should be able to scan past that error then.

My camera does not have a digital media card, it has internal memory. Can RescuePRO™ bring back the images I deleted?

We cannot recover from the internal memory on the cameras, only removable digital media.

I have a Sony FD Mavica. It stores images on floppy disks. Can you recover the deleted pictures from the floppy?

Yes. If the floppy is not damaged, we should be able to recover your images.

I have a Sony CD Mavica. It stores images on a mini-CD. Can you recover the deleted pictures from the CD?

Yes, we can recover from the CD as long as it is not damaged physically, and the disk session has been finalized in the camera.

I ran the scan, and there are images that show only half of a picture, is there a way to recover the other half of the picture?

Those images are broken on the card, and not recoverable with RescuePRO™. It is possible that the images could be manually recovered. Please contact support@lc-tech.com for details.

When I put my card in a reader on my computer, it does not "see" the card as a drive (as it does when I put a non-damaged SmartMedia card in the reader). Since the computer doesn't "see" the card in the reader, RescuePRO™doesn't list the drive (which usually appears as an "F:" hard drive) and I can't run recovery on it.

The card may need to be formatted - DO NOT DO THIS IN THE WINDOWS EXPLORER!!
Put the card in the reader and determine the drive letter.

Go to the command prompt (DOS prompt) and type in the following command, placing the proper drive letter in place. DO NOT DO THIS ON ANY OTHER DISK THAN THE DIGITAL MEDIA.

FORMAT {drive letter of card}: /Q

...and press enter. You should get a prompt asking about the volume label. Just hit enter for none. Close the command prompt window.

Then scan the card with RescuePRO.

Do you have a free utility that will tell me whether I have photos able to be recovered (but not actually recover them)?

Yes, the demo of RescuePRO™will show you the thumbnails of the images we can recover.

I would like to know if the program can recover my pictures from my C drive. I deleted my pics to the recycle bin and I emptied the recycle bin. Now, I want to recover them. Is it possible ?

RescuePRO™was not designed to recover data from the hard drive. You should try a demo of FILERECOVERY Professional at www.lc-tech.com

I need to restore damaged image files off of a CD-ROM. Can RescuePRO™ do this?

Yes, scan the CD just like you would scan a digital card. If the CD is not damaged, and the session has been closed, we should be able to recover images from it.

I am using a floppy disk adapter with my smartmedia card, and RescuePRO™will not show my card, or shows it Not Ready - what is wrong?

Floppy disk adapters for digital media do not allow the proper access to the card, and will not show all of the files in a recovery. You will need to use a card reader on a USB port.

I've managed to erase all my pictures from my CompactFlash card. I've got the old free version of Digital Image Recovery and it only managed to restore 57 out of approximately 400 images. 50 of the 57 JPG couldn't be read. My question is, is the RescuePRO™better restoring images?

The RescuePRO™scans and recovers many more images than the old Digital Image Recovery program.

I’m trying to find some drivers for a Canon digital IXUS. I’ve found them at http://www.canon-asia.com/downloads/driver_digitalCamera.html , but the only ones available for Win98 are USB Twain drivers. Will these help? Basically the camera doesn’t show up in windows explorer and I’m trying to find an option where I don’t have to buy a card reader.

Unfortunately, if the camera uses twain drivers, there is nothing you can do - this is because the hardware was not designed for use as a removable drive, and would not work with the software. You will need to get a USB reader, which allows the media to be seen as a removable disk.
